And Clay, though he tries to fight and deny it, simply cannot resist being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life. Fight Church (84 min.) + Families are Forever (21 min.)
Families are Forever
(USA) 21 min. (2013) Documentary Short
DIR Vivian Kleiman CAST Tom Montgomery,  Wendy Montgomery, Jordan Montgomery
Tom and Wendy were devout Mormon parents living in a conservative community: Attending church every Sunday, actively serving in their callings in the ward, and knocking on doors to promote support for California’s Proposition 8 to prevent same-sex marriage. Then one day, Wendy read 13-year-old Jordon’s diary and discovered he was gay. What happened next changed their lives forever.

Fight Church
(USA) 84 min. (2013) Documentary Full-length Feature
DIR Bryan Storkel, Daniel Junge CAST Paul Burress
Pastor Paul Burress runs Victory Training out of his church in Rochester, New York.  His church is one of many around the country adopting fight ministries as part of their mission.  Not only does Burress use fighting as an evangelical tool with men and boys, but he, like many in this new movement, believes today’s Christian needs more of a warrior ethos which can be honed through mixed martial arts.Burress has a dark past and a history of unsanctioned fighting in which he's suffered ten concussions. With the rise of MMA’s popularity, he’s tempted to get back into the ring himself, in spite of his doctor's warnings. Complicating matters is that New York is only one of two states in the nation where MMA is illegal – the legislative battle for which Paul and others in the religious community are fighting. Alongside, Pastor Burress’s complex story, there are several other pastors who are also fighters. Through their inter-twined narratives, culminating in several riveting fights, this film seeks to discuss the compatibility of Christianity and mixed martial arts and, moreover, the confluence of religion and violence in our culture.  Through sympathetic subjects on both sides of this debate, the film asks provocative questions about sports, masculinity, free will and morality.

DIR
Regan Brashear CAST John  Hockenberry, Gregor Wolbring, Patricia Berne, Hugh Herr, Fernanda Castelo
From bionic limbs and neural implants to prenatal screening, researchers around the world are hard at work developing a myriad of technologies to fix or enhance the human body. "Fixed: The Science/Fiction of Human Enhancement" takes a close look at the drive to be “better than human” and the radical technological innovations that may take us there. What does 'disabled' mean when a man with no legs can run faster than most people in the world? What does “normal” mean when cosmetic surgery procedures have risen over 450% percent in the last fifteen years and increasing numbers of people turn to “smart drugs” every day to get ahead at school or work? With prenatal screening able to predict hundreds of probable conditions, who should determine what kind of people get to be born? If you could augment your body’s abilities in any way imaginable, would you?

Pie Lady of Pie Town
(USA) 29 min. (2014) Documentary Short
DIR Jane Rosemont CAST Kathy Knapp
Why did Kathy Knapp, a Dallas businesswoman, leave her charmed life to bake pie in a dusty town with no traffic light, no gas station and sketchy utilities? Pie Town came upon its name honestly in the 1920s when a cattle rancher sold pie to supplement his income. The area is teeming with Old West history and hardy characters. The film is about resolve, heartache, healing, and pie as a vehicle for peace. You’ll see an alien, a dummy, feel connections to deep space, and hear some finger-snapping tunes. You will want pie, and probably more than one slice. Welcome to Pie Town, New Mexico. The name is no joke.

Tumbling from the Mountaintop of Truth: The Art of Anselm Spring
(USA) 28 min. (2013) Documentary Short
DIR Virginia Lee Hunter CAST Anselm Spring
A successful German photographer walks away from it all to settle on a mesa in remote Southern Utah where he explores a life as an artist.  Anselm Spring gave up professional photography the day he realized he wanted his own life to be 'as overwhelming as nature is'.This poetic portrait of a puzzling artist captures the paradoxes that run through an artist who's mission is to convey 'truth' through his art using materials such as Fruit Loops, animal bones, and barbie dolls, with a few Jesus figurines thrown in.  Spring proves to be a provocative subject, surprisingly insightful one moment, slyly winking the next. Fool on the hill, or genius on the Mountaintop. Your conclusion may surprise you.

Drawing on perspectives gathered from over 150 interviews shot over 4 years in 20 countries, "Poverty, Inc." explores the hidden side of doing good. From disaster relief to TOMs Shoes, from adoptions to agricultural subsidies, "Poverty, Inc." follows the butterfly effect of our most well-intentioned efforts and pulls back the curtain on the poverty industrial complex - the multi-billion dollar market of NGOs, multilateral agencies, and for-profit aid contractors. Are we catalyzing development or are we propagating a system in which the poor stay poor while the rich get hipper?

Thousands of German families were interned by the United States during World War II. They were taken from their homes and schools, denied 'due process' and imprisoned in  200+ detention camps throughout the United States and Latin America. 'Children of Internment' tells their riveting story using live interviews with those who were interned, family photographs and historical footage. Five years before Pearl Harbor, J. Edgar Hoover had begun to compile the notorious 'ABC list' over concerns of national security. It was originally aimed at Communists, Fascists, and Nazis. By the end of 1939, it had evolved into hysteria directed at German, Italian and Japanese aliens. Their allegiance to the country was questioned, regardless of how long they had lived in the United States. It is a common misperception that only Japanese-Americans were interned during WWII. The German-American wartime experience remains largely overlooked by historians and generally unknown to most Americans.Nearly 11,000 German aliens were interned and tens of thousands more suffered illegal searches and seizures, interrogation, family separation, and deportation. In 1943, 17-year-old Eberhard Fuhr was arrested. He was six weeks shy of graduating from High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and was in class when the FBI picked him up. Fuhr was charged with 'suspicion.' He and his family would spend the next four and a half years in government custody. The taking away of freedom with the excuse that doing so is vital to national security, was an issue then and continues to be an issue today.

Discovering disappointment in the arms of her hero Jack Kerouac. Cherishing the inspiration of other female poets and writers like Elise Cowen, Barbara Moraff, and Bonnie Bremser. Encountering disappointment in Ken Kesey and magic in Timothy Leary. Fighting and loving with Pete Knell and the Hell's Angels. Digging the Diggers in San Francisco. Rambling with Jack Elliott on Bob Dylan's Rolling Thunder Revue. Finding hope in the grey wall prisons of America. 'Janine Pommy Vega is one of the most fascinating women I ever had the pleasure to meet,' Herbert Huncke told codirector Kurt Hemmer. Hemmer goes on to state 'It was impossible for her to make someone yawn. I truly enjoyed hearing her regale me with tales of her travels around the world to poetry conferences, of her conversations with fellow artists of various disciplines and nationalities, and of her new political and social insights, which were articulated with the skill of an astute pundit.' Love Janine Pommy Vega is a tribute to this remarkable woman, a friendly voice from the grave, the last testament of a wise woman who was there and now is gone.

W. E. B. DuBois famous wrote that every Black in America grow up with 'this double-consciousness, this sense of always looking at one's self through the eyes of others.' But what happens when the double consciousness of being gay is overlaid on that? This self-narrated documentary follows a man of extraordinary talent: running back for the Stanford Cardinal; dancer at Julliard; model, singer, and performer in Europe; the epitome of Black masculinity and grace. And yet he's closeted for the first 40 years of his life. When he finally crashes and burns, his wanderings bring him to the very heart of gay life in San Francisco. And still he won't come out.
